What is the dark web?

The dark web is part of the internet that is not visible to search engines and therefore it does not appear through regular internet browsing activities. It is an encrypted network which requires the use of an anonymizing browser to be accessed.

The dark web is a hotbed for criminal activities and illegal trades. Since there is a lot of personal information used and published online, it is a common occurrence that hackers get their hands on some of it and sell it on the dark web. This information includes credit card numbers, images of identification cards, passports, medical records, and many types of account credentials such as email addresses, social media accounts and subscription accounts.
